Topping Out Day
Work on a roof officially ends with a 'topping out day' when the owners and agents come to inspect the finished job. This roof belongs to the building which can be seen on the left hand side of the painting entitled 'The Pleasure Gardens' it is another which could be seen from the artists windows.
Having observed the re-roofing process over many weeks the artist was engaged by the bizarre sight of many people congregated on the roof top in the translucent early light of a lovely spring morning. This was the basis of the work which she entitled 'Topping Out Day'.
